Biography

Steve Kraus is an 11-year Air Force veteran who served seven additional years as a civilian contract engineer assigned to Special Operations in Desert Storm, achieving the equivalent rank of GS12 (Lieutenant Colonel).  Steve earned his bachelor’s degree from Troy State University and he is a business owner.  He was once licensed as a practicing real estate and as an auctioneer.  He received his auctioneer’s license from the Walton School of Auctioneering and his real estate license from the Ohio Business College.

Steve’s military experience includes 11 years in the U.S. Air Force, specializing in electronic warfare systems. His broad range of experience includes his stateside service in Texas, Mississippi, Arizona, North Carolina and Florida. Overseas, Steve has served in Germany, South Korea, Japan, Philippians, and Panama. He worked on Viet Nam era Drones, F4-E Fighters, RF4-C Reconnaissance Fighters, AC-130 Gunships, the MC-130 Combat Talon, and MH53J Pave Low Helicopter. Steve’s final assignment was with the 1st Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, Florida, where he was assigned to the Service Life Program and flight test of the Pave Low Helicopter. After completion of that assignment, he served the USAF as a Field Engineer Contractor for an additional seven years, providing mission-critical on-site technical expertise. Ranked as a GS-12, he deployed with Special Forces for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he served with distinction in Saudi Arabia during hostilities. His deep respect for the Military before, during, and after his service is steadfast.

Steve earned an Associate’s Degree in Avionic Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force and his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Troy State University.

Steve has served in various offices in his church, and participates in numerous outreach activities including missions, music, and a bimonthly community breakfast. He volunteers his professional auction services at the annual Easters Seals auction and sings for cancer survivors at Relay for Life. Steve participates in the Sandusky Choral Society and has lent his singing talent to many local functions including the annual Blessing of the Fleet. He is committed to serving the residents of Ohio with integrity and consistent communication. Steve believes in treating all constituents with the utmost respect and believes in leadership by example. Steve believes an elected official should be and behave as a “public servant” with integrity, common sense, and an optimistic vision for America’s future. Steve’s motivation is to pass the torch of liberty onto our next generations. His insight gained through faith, business, and war, have prepared him for such a time as this.

In 2016, Steve Kraus ran as a Republican candidate to the US House for the 9th Congressional District, but was defeated in the Republican Primary by Donald Larson.  In the November 2014 election, he won a seat to the Ohio House of Representatives, representing District 89 against Chris Redfern, where he served until July 27, 2015.  On that date, he was relieved of his position due to the felony conviction in question.
